Pierrette Dupoyet performance on April 12, 2025
Synopsis:
Joséphine Baker (1906-1975): A woman with an exceptional destiny, a visionary of a fraternal world. This gifted performer, descended from a family of slaves, not only danced frenziedly in “La Revue Nègre” (The Black Revue) and sang the unforgettable “J’ai deux amours…” (I Have Two Loves…), she also opened her heart wide by committing herself and deciding to adopt twelve children of different races, religions, and countries. This was what she called her “rainbow tribe.” A splendid but excessive dream!
No longer at the height of her fame, this living legend has numerous creditors harassing her. We meet this generous-hearted rebel (active in the Resistance, committed to fighting slavery and all forms of racism) at a time when, plagued by another reversal of fortune, she must face the bailiffs who have come to evict her alone.
Pierrette shares her favorites with the public with passion and conviction! Through this “tribute show,” her thirst for Fraternity is intertwined with the destiny of Joséphine Baker, a woman who loved without counting the cost…

Josephine Baker Festival
“The year 2025 marks a double anniversary: 100 years ago, Joséphine Baker arrived in France to create “La revue nègre” (The Black Review), which would make her known to the world, and on April 12, 1975, 50 years ago, she left us.
The struggles of this exemplary woman have never been more relevant, and the values of the Republic, the universality of rights and responsibilities, are at the heart of the work that must be done to enable current and future generations to live in a better and more enlightened world.
These are all reasons why, at this third edition, we will celebrate the women of struggle such as Simone Veil, Geneviève Antonioz de Gaulle, Gisèle Halimi, and so many others, who, like Joséphine Baker, blaze a trail that unites us.” Claude Pierre-Bloch – National Vice-President of the LICRA (French Association for the Promotion of Women in the Arts), Founder of the Joséphine Baker Festival
It is a great honor for the Château des Milandes to host this third edition of the Joséphine Baker Festival, which pays tribute to these women of courage, committed to the humanist values championed by Joséphine Baker herself, and thus perpetuates their commitments through the voices and writings of the authors present!
Admission to the Joséphine Baker Festival is free, as is access to the gardens (see the conditions below for access to the château).
PLEASE NOTE!
- The castle and chapel interiors are still subject to admission. You will have to pay an entrance fee to visit the castle, the chapel, and attend the special interview with the falconers (see our prices).
- There will be no free-flight raptor presentations on June 28th and 29th. However, special interviews with our falconers will be offered at 11:15 am, 3:00 pm, and 4:30 pm (duration: 30 minutes). You will have the opportunity to chat with them, take photos, and ask any questions you may have. The falconers will be delighted to share this moment with our visitors, birds in glove! Thank you for your understanding.
- The brasserie will be closed on June 28th and 29th, 2025. The snack bar will, however, be open (hot and cold sandwiches, treats, drinks, etc.), and a gourmet market will be set up near the picnic area for this event.
- Our animal friends are still not allowed on the estate, even if you only come for the Joséphine Baker Festival.
